Air-well
dishwasher concept for electrolux 2050
By the year 2050, water scarcity will reach a crest where we will have to run around for every single drop of water, thinking of water for other uses would just be a dream. Keeping in mind the dearth of water in the near future, “Air-Well” is a dishwasher concept that no longer would require water to do dishes. Designed by Dénes Janoch for Electrolux, the dishwasher does not need any energy or water in the regular use, as it produces water and energy on its own. The use of active atmospheric water collection helps to produce water with the mechanical refrigeration. A heat exchanger is cooled below the dew point and as a result water is produced in return, so you won’t require extra water for the washing process. The energy is produced from the organic waste which is produced from the dishwashing process using the method utilized in bio-gas. It’s definitely the dishwasher of the future.”*
Water has been collected from the air for at least 2,000 years using air wells in Middle Eastern deserts, and later in Europe. Historical records indicate the use of water-collecting fog fences. An air well requires moisture from the air; and everywhere on Earth, even in the hottest climates, the surrounding atmosphere contains at least some water. The atmosphere contains 12,900 km3 of fresh water all the time, composed of 98% water vapor and 2% in clouds. Only 1km3 of water is equals unavailable 2 trillion liters of fresh water. Many atmospheric water generators operate in a manner very similar to that of a dehumidifier: air is passed over a cooled coil, causing water to condense. The rate of water production depends on the ambient temperature, humidity, the volume of air passing over the coil, and the machine's capacity to cool the coil.So why don’t we used water generators as a usual water source? The answer: that we don’t need it yet. We know the technology, but it was easier and cheaper to build tap-water reticulations and drilling regular wells. This technology is green and it’s reminds people to don’t waste water and energy because it’s all around us but we have to use it wisely.
